AC Milan vs. Ajax Champions League betting preview
It’s all change at Ajax since Martin Jol left the club on Monday. Group G has already been decided but pride is at stake for the Dutch side’s stand-in manager, Frank de Boer.
This game in particular doesn’t hold much relevance; Milan have already qualified and Ajax cannot qualify at all, however if Auxerre were to get a result in Madrid, then Ajax would miss out on a Europa League place too which would be a disaster for the Dutch side.
Also, with Jol leaving the club, Ajax have a new stand-in manager who will be looking to make a point and show he has the credentials to take the role on permanently – Frank de Boer. He is a man who has Ajax in his blood, having come through the infamous Ajax academy and after a successful stint as Bert van Marwijk’s assistant manager at the recent World Cup, will be ready to take the step up.
AC Milan have had a great start to the season so far both in Serie A and the Champions League; sitting on top of the former with 33 points and clear of Lazio in 2nd place by 3 points, losing only two games along the way and having qualified in 2nd place in the Champions League Group G.
They boast a real mix of experience and youth and have one of the most exciting strike forces out there; Pato, Robinho, Ronaldinho, Inzaghi and Ibrahimovuc could strike fear into most defences around the world.
I can imagine a number of changes being made in the Milan team for this game against Ajax as they have a big game against Roma on Saturday evening in Serie A but I would expect Ajax to play a strong side to see if they can salvage anything from the match and keep their chances of Europa League qualification alive.
Football Betting Odds
The bookies make Milan clear favourites as you would expect and the best price you can get on them, and a price that I still think represents value, is the 20/21 at Victor Chandler.
For anyone who believes that Frank de Boer will inspire his new side to a decent victory, then you can pick up quite favourable odds of 3/1 at Paddy Power, while the draw, a result that seems much more likely than an Ajax win is priced up at Bodog at 5/2.
I think that Robinho may get a run out in this match and Paddy Power has priced him up to score at anytime at a decent 15/8.
If Milan clicks into gear this could be a decent victory for the Italians and a bet I really like is for Milan to beat the -1 handicap, priced at a very respectable 13/5 with Paddy Power.
Milan at home are able of running any team over so another bet I am a big fan of and am slightly surprised of the value in the betting is for Milan to be winning at both half time and full time, priced up at 2/1 with Bodog.
Predictions –
Milan to be winning at half time and full time at 2/1 with Bodog
Milan to beat the -1 handicap at 13/5 with Paddy Power
Robinho to score at anytime at 15/8 with Paddy Power
